Python, SQL, Git & Excel — Automation, Financial Data Analytics & Web Development

I come from a reindeer-herding family. A herd is a portfolio held across eight seasons rather than four, and herding is the practice of managing an asset that is alive, mobile, exposed to weather that cannot be forecast, and valued over decades rather than years.

It taught me composition over size, reserves held against the season that will be bad, restraint in the most volatile weeks of the year – and the specific discipline of doing nothing on purpose. It is not a metaphor I have borrowed. It is a body of practice several centuries older than modern portfolio theory, developed under conditions where being wrong was not a drawdown.

That discipline carried into my profession. I am a hands-on, analytical business economist and quant finance specialist with broad, senior-level experience across accounting, finance and corporate management – equally at home in the ledger and in the model.

I am results-driven and commercially minded, constantly looking for the next financial or process improvement. I do my best work in fast-paced, dynamic environments and under real pressure, and I set high standards – for myself first – while remaining positive, collaborative and approachable, with high integrity and a continuous focus on sharing what I know.

If a task must be done a third time, I automate it. I program in Python and have designed and built a proprietary portfolio management system for equities and loans, fully integrated with accounting systems – finance, accounting and software engineering brought together in one tool.

Designed and built: a complete portfolio management platform

I have designed and built a complete web-based portfolio management platform. The ambition was simple to state and demanding to deliver: data is entered once — then every calculation, every accounting voucher and every report is generated automatically.

Where I encounter manual, repetitive processes, I build systems that eliminate them.

What the platform does

PostgreSQL Python GitHub · CI/CD Live market data

The platform is built on PostgreSQL with Python for all business logic, and GitHub for version control, testing and deployment. It is integrated with live market data (15-minute delay), so portfolios are valued continuously throughout the trading day.

Automated from entry to report

01 Realised and unrealised gains under the FIFO principle
02 Multi-currency loan portfolios with automatic interest calculation and monthly capitalisation
03 Foreign exchange gains and losses (agio/disagio) under the gross method
04 Complete accounting vouchers in accordance with Norwegian accounting standards
05 Real-time reports — status reports, lender reporting and audit-ready interest documentation
06 Full traceability from entry, through the general ledger, to the finished report

A dedicated reconciliation engine with six independent control suites recalculates everything — down to the last cent — before anything is shared with external parties.

Security in layers

Database access is segregated so that reporting and lookup interfaces technically cannot alter the accounts. All traffic runs over enforced encryption, login requires two-factor authentication with one-time codes, and passwords are stored only as hashes. Secrets never live in source code or version history.

The background

The combination that made this possible has been developed over an entire career. Professionally I come from finance, accounting and investment management — but I have worked with SQL databases since the late 1990s and count database architecture, data modelling and query optimisation among my strongest technical skills. For the past ten years, Python has been my tool for automating everything that is done more than twice.

This platform is the sum of all of it: finance, accounting, databases, software development and automation combined in one integrated system. The plan ahead is to extend it with more analytics, risk management and further automation.
